OCS Day 80 (26/AUG/09)

The day is almost here: graduation day is tomorrow.
Today was nearly completely consumed by our practicing for graduation. For some reason, we are not graduating on post, but in downtown Columbus, at the Columbus Convention Center. It is actually a pretty cool building. It is also called the Ironworks, because it was, well, an ironworks dating back to the civil war. They actually made civil war munitions and a couple of gunboats at this plant! So that was kind of cool, and it was nicely renovated, so it won’t be a bad place to have our ceremony.
So we had our initial formation at 0800, and then bused over to the ironworks. We did one rehearsal in the morning, then were released for lunch. Coincidentally, my family was downtown about to go check out a museum, so I called them up and had them meet me for lunch. After lunch we did a couple more rehearsals and now we should be good to go. When we were done, then, we bused back to the company, but we weren’t quite released yet, as we still had that paperwork to do that didn’t get done yesterday. It turned out to be a simple affair; all we had to do was sign out our files so we can bring them to our next unit. So having that done, my wife came and picked me up and we went back to the hotel.
I graduated from Basic Training here 8 years ago, and at that time (I’m not sure if it is the same now) family day was the day before graduation day, so we could go out and do whatever for like 6 hours, wearing our Class B uniforms. Well we went to a Southern BBQ place for family day. I couldn’t remember the restaurant at all, other than that we ate at a BBQ place, but my mom remembered, and so we went to the same place we went to for family day, which was pretty cool. After that we went back to the hotel, played a couple games, and now the day is done.
It was a pretty mundane day, I know, and you are probably bored reading about it. But there has to be mundane days for there to be exciting days, which tomorrow should prove to be.

Congrats, you have earned it. I have read through quite a bit, and it will help me in my training. Thanks again.
